Capstone's 2 nd Module
Single Handed Offense (approximately 5 weeks)
Module two is all about offensive swordplay. We start with the basic attacks and as we develop new skills we also gain a greater appreciation and understanding of the symbolism and concepts contained within the Segno diagram.
This Module covers:-
- Basic cuts using different angles and matching blade orientation (Refer Segno diagram).
- Theory and application of power generation (Elephant and Tower in action).
- Cutting actions using different parts of the blade. (True cuts:- guard to guard vs percussive strikes)
- Allowing the sword to be a sword and not a club (Grip and timing of the cut).
- Maintaining flow and returns of cuts.
- How to thrust and recover. Different techniques against armoured and unarmoured opponents.
- Continue to develop the terms and language used in Capstone classes.
This Module involves a lot of repetition and drill work and the structure of the Module is very similar in structure to that of an Eastern Martial Art class. The Module is designed to suit all levels of experience with an interest in Heavy, Cut & Thrust or Rapier combat.
No special equipment is required but a sword length of rattan would be beneficial. We have them available for sale at cost ($16 per sword length). If you are nice to me I might shape a grip for you.
